			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>It is no wonder that the Scots have one of the highest mortality rates in the world when it comes to heart disease.  Their favorite food is something called “haggis”.</p>
<p>Haggis is made from the innards of several animals and then mixed with some animal fat to make it taste even better.  The Scots do not like to eat their veggies either.  This is a deadly combination when it comes to high cholesterol levels.  But, then again, I suppose you can look at us Americans and our love of hamburgers and french fries if you want another example of a high cholesterol diet.  We are not far behind the Scots when it comes to eating an unhealthy diet.</p>
<p>Cholesterol, by itself, is not a bad substance.  We cannot live without it.  Our body uses the cholesterol produced by our liver to make cell membranes, sex hormones, bile acids and vitamin D.  If we eat too many animal foods that add cholesterol to our system, it can lead to a dangerous buildup in our system.  Cholesterol in food comes only from animals, so you can find it in meat, milk, eggs, and butter.</p>
<p>You can divide the kinds of cholesterol into the good (HDL) and the bad (LDL).  Your body produces the good form of HDL cholesterol that tries to transport the LDL cholesterol to the liver for disposal.  You can probably guess why eating animal liver has gone out of fashion.  Liver and onions used to be a staple on our table when I was growing up.  Mom thought that the iron in the liver was good for you.</p>
<p>Here are a few suggestions that will help you control your “bad” cholesterol by what you eat.</p>
<p>Eat more nuts.  Nuts contain significant levels of plant sterols.  These nutrients can lower LDL by keeping your system from absorbing the cholesterol in foods that you eat.  In the grocery store, you can buy products like margarines and juices that contain extra plant sterols.  Sesame seeds, sunflower seeds and pistachios all help control LDL.</p>
<p>Eating more soluble fiber found in whole grains, beans and fresh fruits will also help you lower your LDL.  To do this, eat food with oat bran, oatmeal, barley, pinto beans, kidney beans, Brussels sprouts, or one of my favorites, <a href="http://eatdinner4two.com/baked-sweet-potato-fries-are-easy-healthy-and-crispy/">baked sweet potato fries</a>.</p>
<p>Drinking 5 glasses of red wine a week can help lower LDL.  This is a case where more is not necessarily better.  There is a sweet spot here that can help.  Stick to the sweet spot for best results.</p>
<p>Tofu and other soy foods contain compounds called phytoestrogens.  They will also help lower the bad cholesterol.  Replacing animal protein with 1 1/2 ounces of soy protein a day can lower LDL by 97%.</p>
<p>And here is a tasty suggestion.  Cloves of garlic can offer some protection against bad cholesterol.  Garlic contains a compound called allicin that could change the way the body uses cholesterol.  Researchers say eating 1/2 to 1 clove of garlic a day can help lower your LDL by 9%.  When using garlic, it should be minced or crushed and cooked into a healthy meal like soup or a vegetable stir fry.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>This is quite possibly the most popular detox cleanse out there right now. The 10 day <a href="http://cleanseyourbodyfast.com/6-tips-for-a-body-cleansing-juice-fast/">juice fast</a> comes in a close second, and has been gaining popularity lately. The Master Cleanser is definitely one of the oldest detox diets out there, and as a reader pointed out – “It’s a little embarrassing that <a href="http://cleanseyourbodyfast.com">cleanseyourbodyfast.com</a> has not ever covered the famous lemon detox diet”</p>
<p>All I can say to that is touché my valued reader, touché!</p>
<p>So there are several varieties to the master cleanse –</p>
<ul>
<li>The Spicy Lemonade Diet</li>
<li>The Cayenne Pepper Diet</li>
<li>The Maple Syrup Diet</li>
<li>The Lemon Detox Diet</li>
</ul>
<p>Actually I am kidding, these all refer to the same cleansing diet. Why is has so many names I don’t know – it has even been called the Beyoncé diet, after singer/actress Beyoncé Knowles told press she lost close to 10 pounds doing the master cleanse diet. Again these all refer to the same diet.</p>
<h3>So what is the Lemonade Diet?</h3>
<p>The lemonade diet is a detox plan that is discussed in a book called &#8216;The Master Cleanser’ written by Stanley Burroughs.</p>
<p>What is special about this diet is, unlike all the current fads and gimmicks appearing lately, is the lemonade diet has been around longer than you have. ‘The Master Cleanser’ book was first published on April 24, 1974. Yes that says <strong>seventy four</strong>, as in over thirty years ago, and I bet you thought this latest craze was something brand new</p>
<p>What is even more interesting &#8211; in this book published over 37 years ago, Stanley wrote</p>
<p>“The lemonade diet first proved itself in healing of stomach ulcers over forty years ago.”</p>
<p>If you do the math you can see people have been using this detox diet since before you were born (most likely)</p>
<p>The lemonade diet typically lasts for 10 days, although some people have done it for an entire month and some even longer! During this time you do not eat any solid foods and only drink the lemonade. The lemonade is a mix of maple syrup, lemons and cayenne pepper. It tastes like a spicy lemonade (hence the name ‘the spicy lemonade diet’). I know it sounds pretty unappetizing , especially since you will be drinking it for over a week, but honestly its actually not nearly as bad as it sounds. I found myself actually craving the spicy lemonade concoction for a few months after I did the cleanse. I plan on doing the master cleanse again after the new years and will write about my progress as I do, so be sure to bookmark this page and check back starting January 3<sup>rd</sup> 2012 (I need a few days to recover from celebrating new years!)</p>
<h3>The Master Cleanse Recipe</h3>
<p>The receipt for the lemon tonic is actually extremely easy to make, and doesn’t require a lot of prep time, the only tiresome part is squeezing the lemon juice every day. To be honest there were a few days I cheated and used <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004T34U7S/ref=as_li_tf_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=cleanseyourbo-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=B004T34U7S">organic lemon juice</a><img style="border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;" src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=cleanseyourbo-20&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=B004T34U7S" border="0" alt="" width="1" height="1" /> instead of fresh squeezed.</p>

<li>2 Tbsp lemon or lime juice (it turns out you can get      about 4 Tbsp from a single lemon or lime)</li>
<li>2 Tbsp Pure Grade B Dark Amber Maple Syrup (do not      substitute!)</li>
<li>1/10 Tsp cayenne pepper (red pepper) or to taste</li>
<li>10 oz water, medium hot (spring or purified water)</li>
</ul>
<p>This is for a single serving of the spicy lemonade concoction. However, being that you can drink as much of this as you want and should dr</p>
<p>ink it every time you get the hunger, I would definitely recommend you <strong>do not</strong> actually make this one glass at time. If you get hungry and don’t have any lemonade available you are more likely to break the cleanse and eat solid food. The recipe scales and I would try to make a whole days’ worth of the master cleanser drink every morning. Almost everything can be picked up at your local market or at any <a href="http://wholefoodsmarket.com">Whole Foods Market</a> and Trader Joe&#8217;s if you are lucky enough to live near either one of those.</p>
<p>I should have a recipe scaler for you pretty soon, so you can enter the size of your container and it will let you know what you need to purchase to make the spicy lemonade and also tell you the correct proportions for the size of you container.</p>

<h3>Can you really lose weight on the master cleanse?</h3>
<p>There is a lot of skepticism surrounding the lemonade diet and if it really even works. Everyone’s body responds differently and having the diet ‘work’ for you depends on what you want from the diet.</p>
<p>If your primary reason to go on the master cleanse is for weight loss, I would almost recommend against you doing the detox. You <strong>will </strong>lose weight on this diet, it is one of the ‘side effects’ so to speak, a moderately overweight person could expect to lose up to two pounds a day as your body rids itself of toxins and other waste. However, when you go and grab and in-and-out burger (which sadly, I love) to celebrate you completing the master cleanse; you <strong>WILL</strong>gain all the weight back and be right back to square one.</p>
<p>There are a few ways to keep the weight off, one of them being just doing that master cleanse forever.  Seriously though, the only way to keep off any of the weight you will lose during the master cleanse is to commit to healthy eating and daily exercise.  This doesn&#8217;t mean you have stick with only eating celery and hitting the gym every day for two hours a day.</p>
<h4>Healthy Eating</h4>

The lemon detox diet should be part of a life style change that continues well after the master cleanse is over. The most important being what you are going to put back into your body after the master cleanse. While some would recommend a life style change and go vegan or at least vegetarian, that is a little extreme for most.</p>
<p>I would at the very least eliminate the following things from your diet</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Artificial flavors and artificial colors</strong> – these are unnatural and our bodies were no intended      to digest these</li>
<li><strong>Preservatives</strong>–      the name says it all, we don’t need anything preserved in our intestines.      Chances our if you can pronounce it, you shouldn&#8217;t put in your body</li>
<li><strong>High Fructose Corn Syrup</strong>– anything that contains trace amounts of mercury and      is created with hydrochloric acid should stay far away from your stomach</li>
</ul>
<p>This I would say should be the minimum you eliminate from your diet, reading labels can go a long way to keeping your body healthy. Don’t be discouraged if you favorite foods are now ‘tainted’ you can find great alternatives to almost everything at Whole Foods Market or Trader Joe’s.</p>
<p>If you are really serious about changing your life style I really recommend reading the Engine 2 Diet.</p>
<h4>Daily Exercise</h4>
<p>This is so much easier than most people think. I find that most people create an elaborate exercise plan that takes more effort and time than is require. If you are not going to compete for a gold medal, don’t try to exercise like a gymnast!</p>
<p>The minimum you need to help maintain a healthy body is 20 – 30 minutes of light exercise <strong>every </strong>day.  You’re not going to get six pack abs and gluts of steel with 30 minutes of light exercise but you will lower your risk for heart disease, lower your cholestorol and you will feel great.</p>
<p>I highly recommend you exercise in the morning first thing; it really changes the tone of your entire day. I heard Tony Robbins talking about it a while ago and recently started doing it, it’s amazing. I do 15 sit ups, 15 push-ups and 20 jumping jacks first thing when I wake up (almost) every morning right when I wake up. My girlfriend things I am freak, but it really does make a difference in my day. Give it a try, I dare you!</p>
<p>However, if waking up like you’re a crazed army instructor doesn&#8217;t suite you, just walk. That’s right I said just walk, we can all do that with minimum effort. Walk for 20 – 30 minutes every day. Those of us that have stressful jobs, walking after you get off work can really help you decompress and not bring work home with you to your family.</p>
<p>So the answer is yes, the master cleanse diet can help you lose weight, but it’s not a miracle diet. Well maybe it is, but a miracle that requires dedication and some follow up effort.</p>

<h3>The Lemonade Diet Plan – 10 Day Detox</h3>
<p><strong>Day -1 (the day before the cleanse)</strong></p>
<p>Most people are tempted to pig out the entire day before they start a cleanse, I definitely recommend you do not, in fact to help ease your body into the detox, I recommend heating up vegetable broth for lunch and dinner the day before to help your body get used to not eating solid food. Also the day before you should buy all the ingredients needed for the cleanse so you are not tempted at the grocery store</p>
<p><strong>Days 1-3</strong></p>
<p>Start each day off by making the spicy lemonade – enough to last you all day. Drink as often as you like and every time you are hungry. At night drink senna leaf tea before bed, this helps move things along, expect to wake up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. Some people drink it in the morning instead of at night, however you do not want to do this if you will be at work or anywhere in public to be honest.</p>
<p>The first three days are the hardest, you will be psychologically hungry and will constantly have to fight the urge to eat, if you can resist this is gets much better, and after day five you most likely won’t even be all that hungry.</p>
<p><strong>Day 4</strong></p>
<p>Day four continues as normal – drink the lemonade every time you feel hungry. The only difference on day for is you will start drinking senna tea in the morning and at night. Trust me it won’t be as bad as the first few days.</p>
<p>I said the first three days were the hardest, I lied. This is the tipping point where most people quit the detox, they can’t hang. You will most likely be feeling like complete and utter garbage this day. Your tongue will probably be white and you will most likely have a pretty gnarly headache. The toxins that have been sitting your body for years are now moving about and working their way through your system – which is why we up the senna tea to twice a day.</p>
<p><strong>Days 5-9</strong></p>
<p>Business as usual – drinking lemonade throughout the day, senna tea in the morning and at night. You might start to notice that you are not craving food as intensely or as often. Most people say they are not even hungry that last few days of the master cleanse.</p>
<p><strong>Day 10</strong></p>
<p>You made it, you are most likely feeling more energetic and sleeping better at this point. Well done. Tonight will be the last night you drink the tea, which at this point has done a pretty good job of clearing out your system.</p>
<p><strong>Day 11</strong></p>
<p>Your first day off the cleanse! You will be tempted to eat a huge meal to celebrate, but remember your body has not had solid food in over a weak – that might be a bad choice. I recommend you drink some oj for breakfast, just water it down  so it’s not as acidic on your stomach, and vegetable broth for lunch and a light dinner – suggesting salad and not meats the first day off the cleanse.</p>
<p>The master cleanse is  great way to start of the new year’s or any new beginning, it takes a bit of mental fortitude to complete the diet, but the results are worth it.</p>

If you live near a whole foods you (first, consider yourself lucky) you can just go the supplement section and ask for it, brand name will not matter as much at a Whole Foods Market as they have pretty strict quality standards for all their vitamins and supplements. If you do not live near a whole foods and are unsure of what brand to buy I recommend Nature’s Way and you can buy milk thistle online.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Apple cider vinegar has been getting a lot of attention in the health and body cleanse world. If you go into almost any Whole Foods or health food store you will see books and displays full of information about apple cider vinegar. Apple cider has uses ranging from household cleaning to help with <a href="http://cleanseyourbodyfast.com">cleansing your body</a>, making it a super tonic.</p>
<h3>What is Apple Cider Vinegar?</h3>
<p>Most of us know vinegar as either the delicious or terrible taste from salt and vinegar potato chips. Vinegar is a liquid that consists of mostly water and acetic acid. Vinegar is created through a fermenting process with over 22 different varieties – ranging from beer vinegar to coconut vinegar. The variety that has been gaining a lot of notoriety is apple cider vinegar (or ACV for short)</p>
<p>The sugars in the fermentation process can cause apple cider to turn alcoholic (which is a very tasty type of cider) and if it is left to ferment even further it turns to vinegar. In fact vinegar is supposedly French for ‘sour wine’, apple cider vinegar gets it start in smashed apples as opposed to grapes. What makes apple cider vinegar unique from all the other varieties of vinegars out there is the combination of vitamins, minerals and amino acids that are released and created through the fermenting of apples.</p>
<h3>How to Make Apple Cider Vinegar at Home?</h3>
<p>With ACV’s recent popularity it is extremely easy to find at almost any grocery store, with several varieties of apple cider vinegar – including raw, unpasteurized and organic.  With all the different types of there it can be a bit overwhelming on which type to buy, honestly just purchasing Bragg’s Organic Apple Cider Vinegar is your best bet. For those who prefer to go everything home grown here is a recipe for making apple cider vinegar at home.</p>
<p>(Note: There are a dozen recipe varieties for apple cider vinegar, I am using one from <a href="http://ehe.osu.edu/hn/">Ohio State University&#8217;s Nutrition Department</a>)</p>
<blockquote><p>Making Cider Vinegar at Home</p>
<p>Two factors require special attention when making vinegar at home: oxygen supply and temperature. Oxygen is spread throughout the mixture by stirring it daily and by letting air reach the fluid through a cheesecloth filter, which is used in place of a regular lid. The temperature of fermenting cider should be kept between 60 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit (F). Lower temperatures do not always produce a usable vinegar, and higher ones interfere with the formation of the &#8220;mother of vinegar.&#8221; Mother of vinegar is a mat that forms on the bottom of fermenting wine that has gone bad.</p>
<p>Do not use a metal container when making vinegar; acid in the mixture will corrode metal or aluminum objects. Glass, plastic, wood, enamel, or stainless steel containers should be used for making or storing vinegar. The same holds true for making or storing foods that have more than 1 Tablespoon of vinegar in the recipe.</p>
<p>Steps for Making Cider Vinegar</p>
<p>The following steps must be followed to make a high-quality cider vinegar:</p>
<p>1)      Make a clean cider from ripe apples.</p>
<p>2)      Change all of the fruit sugar to alcohol. This is called &#8220;yeast fermentation.&#8221;</p>
<p>3)      Change all of the alcohol to acetic acid. This is called &#8220;acetic acid fermentation.&#8221;</p>
<p>4)      Clarify the acetic acid to prevent further fermentation and decomposition.</p>
<p>Step 1&#8211;Making Cider</p>
<p>Cider is made from the winter and fall varieties of apples (summer and green apples do not contain enough sugar). Fruit should be gathered, then washed well to remove debris. Crush the fruit to produce apple pulp and strain off the juice. Use a press or cheesecloth for straining.</p>
<p>Adding yeast to activate fermentation is not essential, but will speed up the process. Special cultivated yeasts are available for this purpose at wine-making shops and biological labs&#8211;bread yeasts are not recommended. To make a starter, crumble one cake of yeast into one quart of cider. This makes enough starter for 5 gallons of cider; double the recipe proportionately when making more.</p>
<p>Steps 2 and 3&#8211;Making Alcohol and Acetic Acid</p>
<p>Pour all of the liquid into one or more containers to about three-quarters capacity; do not close the lids on the containers. Stir the mixtures daily. Keep the containers away from direct sunlight and maintain the temperature at 60 to 80 degrees F. Full fermentation will take about 3 to 4 weeks. Near the end of this period, you should notice a vinegar-like smell. Taste samples daily until the desired strength is reached.</p>
<p>Step 4&#8211;Filtering</p>
<p>When the vinegar is fully fermented, filter the liquid through several layers of fine cheesecloth or filter paper&#8211;a coffee filter works well for this. This removes the mother of vinegar, preventing further fermentation or spoilage of the product.</p>
<p>Storing Your Vinegar</p>
<p>The vinegar is now ready for storage in separate, capped containers. Stored vinegar will stay in excellent condition almost indefinitely if it is pasteurized. To pasteurize, heat the vinegar before pouring it into sterilized bottles, or bottle, then place in a hot water bath. In both cases, the temperature of the vinegar must reach at least 140 degrees F to sterilize the product, and should not exceed 160 degrees F. Use a cooking thermometer to ensure the correct temperature is met. Cool the containers and store at room temperature out of direct sunlight.</p></blockquote>
<h3>What are the uses for Apple Cider Vinegar?</h3>
<p>Apple cider vinegar has too many benefits to possible write about on a single blog post, however apple cider vinegar uses can be broken down into two different categories – apple cider health benefits and uses around the home for apple cider vinegar.</p>
<h3>Apple Cider Vinegar Nutrition Facts</h3>
<p>ACV’s nutrition facts will vary slightly depending on the brand you buy or if you made if from home. These are an approximation and will vary from batch to batch slightly</p>
<p>ACV contains the following vitamins –</p>
<p>Vitamin C, Thiamin – Vitamin B1, Riboflavin – Vitamin B2, <a title="Niacin Benefits and Side Effects" href="http://cleanseyourbodyfast.com/niacin-benefits-and-side-effects/">Niacin – Vitamin B3</a>, Vitamin B5, Vitamin B6, Folate – Vitamin B9, Vitamin A and Vitamin E</p>
<p>Apple cider vinegar contains the following minerals –</p>
<p>Calcium, Copper, Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potassium, <a title="Selenium Benefits: How Selenium Protects Your Good Health" href="http://cleanseyourbodyfast.com/selenium-benefits-how-selenium-protects-your-good-health/">Selenium</a>, Sodium and Zinc</p>
<p>Apple cider vinegar also contains nearly 18 amino acids, and several fatty acids.</p>

<h4>Apple cider vinegar on hair –</h4>
<p>ACV has been known to add shine and bounce to your hair. The acetic acid is great from removing build up from conditions and other hair products as well as strengthening your hair.</p>
<h4>Apple cider vinegar for sun burn –</h4>
<p>If you end up out in the sun to long and get sun burned, well shame on your for not using proper sun screen to protect your skin. The sun can speed up the aging process of your skin and cause permanent cell damange. However, ACV can be mixed with cold water and applied to the affected area and actually help draw out some of the heat and provide a cooling sensation.</p>
<h4>Apple cider vinegar for constipation –</h4>
<p>ACV can be used as a <a title="Natural Constipation Remedies" href="http://cleanseyourbodyfast.com/natural-constipation-remedies/">natural constipation remedy</a>. ACV contains pectin which is a water soluble fiber that can help relieve constipation. Just add 2 tablespoons of ACV to 6 ounces of water and drink every couple of hours until its effects set in.</p>

With social media sites growing ever increasingly popular, the advent of web 2.0, an exponential increase in information sources, as well as the invention of numerous devices that give us information, our society has become surrounded by provocative information and sources of entertainment. Prior to sleep, our brain needs to get the feeling of  the lack of activity. We cannot simply tell our brains &#8220;there is nothing more to do for today, you can go to sleep now&#8221;. Our brains must realize subconsciously that the information all throughout the day is to be stored into long term, and it is safe to rest without having to worry about anything for now. But if we keep on accessing exciting things on the internet, or keep on watching provocative television shows, our brain will not be able to settle quickly to sleep, instead it will still keep on thinking that it has the need to be awake to absorb more information or to think about other things.</p>
<p>Tip #1: Eliminate Worry, Excitement, Fear, and Anxiety</p>
<p>These four emotions cause our brains to remain at work all throughout the night. It is quite difficult not to feel these things when something is causing them, but we need to convince ourselves that worrying about something will not solve the problem, nor will being excited bring us ever closer to what we&#8217;re excited about. If something is worrying you and you can do something about right now, then you ought to go and do something about it. Trying to sleep with something on your mind will only be harder than actually trying to solve the problem, unless that problem is very difficult or can wait until morning.</p>
<p>Tip #2: Avoid the Drugs</p>
<p>Avoid caffeine, alcohol, nicotine, and sugar at least  3 hours before bedtime. These drugs can cause your brain to go into overdrive. Avoid them at all costs, lest you want to wake up cranky and tired in the morning to come.</p>

<p>Exercise, watching television, surfing the web, and using mobile devices prior to sleep can affect your sleep. These are one of the main reasons why the average time of sleep that humans of the previous generation is a lot more than that of our generation. Reading, talking to your spouse or kids, or taking a bath is a much better activity prior to bedtime. Unless your profession or career really requires you to do any of these activities, try to avoid them.</p>
